Open Studios at Fairlight Stables Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July 2023
Fairlight Stables Studios are at the far end of Barley Lane, reached along Fairlight Road. Parking in the Country Park Car Park on the left which used to be called the Helipad, then walk down the lane on your right.
I will be showing handmade books, including some with hand marbled covers, also brightly coloured earrings, and a selection of prints. There will be drinks available and a beautiful garden to sit in. My work will be in the Summer House. And there will be the work of 5 other artists in the studios.

tilt a Spring group show at Rye Art Gallery 18 March – 7 May 2023
I showed handmade Coptic bound books using images on the covers. I ran paper/book drop-ins on 2 Saturdays. Also showed the book I made aged 10 titled ‘A Trip to Australia’. And a handmade book ‘Learning to tilt in Italic’ – a collection of quotes found during January-March which include the work ‘tilt’ plus a practice book for my italic handwriting which tilts to the right.

MAKING FOR HOME
I made a series of 9 photographs of people wearing a handmade rabbit hat at places called Warren Road, Warren Avenue, Warren Street Underground and so on – these rabbits were seeking/returning home. Shown in a paper version at Electro Studios Photo Hastings show Back to Normal. Then framed at SoCo Members Show at Hastings Arts Forum October 2023.

This was our 13th event (RUNWAY is Sharon Haward and myself) and we strode from Azur to Galley Hill and took this photo in the rain. The photo was enlarged and installed at The Space, St. Johns Road, St. Leonards on Sea in January and will be there until May 2023.

I am showing my video about Charles Darwin and his daily constitutional round the
Sandwalk at Down House. His daily ritual consisted of 5 loops of the walk he laid out.
This is part of the group show RITUALS AND RELICS put on by SoCo Artists
in The Crypt of St Mary in the Castle, Hastings.

RUNWAY artists lead a FOLKESTONE MEMORY WALK on Friday 17 June with some people from a sheltered housing scheme in Folkestone, a prelude to our live art event and group photograph on Saturday 23 July - part of the Folkestone Triennial Fringe.
We had three female generations of one family.
Memories included: the workshop where the word 'Folkestone' was put into the seaside pink rock; working in a textile factory for M&S; staying in the Grand Burstin Hotel. A small poster will be produced to document the event.

BIRDS AND ME - workshop devised and run for the Magdala Centre, Rye as part of the RUNWAY Residency at the School Creative Centre. Residents were asked to consider birds in their lives and used blackboards to record incidents and memories creating lists and drawings. Birdsong accompanied the workshop. |

Figuring Landscapes screens across the weekend of 6 February 2009 at Tate Modern, London then tours the UK through 2009 to Showroom, Sheffield; Chapter Arts, Cardiff; Cinematheque, Brighton; Bureau, Salford; Dundee Contemporary Arts; Vivid, Birmingham; FACT, Liverpool; Hull Short Film Festival. BREAKING GROUND STAGE 1
Breaking Ground is an experimental collaborative project by Judith Alder and Roz Cran.
Roz and Judidth were artists in residence on a Brighton allotment where they held an Open Day, Allotmenta.
This was followed by a four week residency at the University of Brighton Fine Art Printmaking Department.
BREAKING GROUND STAGE 2
Roz & Judith will be in residence at three Project Spaces in towns along the South Coast. They will develop work through installation and hold a Breaking Ground Open Day and Discussion Event at each venue.

Arts Council Grant for the Arts for Breaking Ground
Breaking Ground Stage 2 has been awarded a grant for the arts from the Arts Council. This means
we can go ahead with the next developments for this project, the hiring of Project Rooms along the
South Coast to push forward the ideas from the allotment residency and from being Artists in Residence

Figuring Landscapes is an Arts Council England funded project that brings together artists' moving
image from the UK and Australia around themes of landscape.
My video Stone has been selected for this major exhibition. Screening programmes will be
complemented by an international symposium at Tate Modern and workshops at ArtSway before
touring the UK and on to Australia starting at Dell Gallery, Brisbane. An illustrated catalogue will be
produced.

Press and Release - exhibition of Artists' Books
This exhibition at Phoenix Gallery, Waterloo Place, near The Level, Brighton starts on 26 April until 7 June.
I am showing 'animal,vegetable,mineral', a bookwork produced using duotone lithography and comprising
5 zigzags in a slipcase. 'Stone' is screened on a tiny monitor next to the zigzags.

Artist in Residence - University of Brighton
Have been Artist in Residence along with collaborative partner, Judith Alder, in the Fine Art
Printmaking Department to develop ideas from the Breaking Ground project on the allotment.
I have been concerned at the lack of birds on the allotment so decided to create some. This
screenprinted thrush is stuffed with stems and moss gathered on the allotment. The Breaking

The new website for BMPD, the organisation we have set up for professional development
and networking for artists is live and we marked the occasion with star fireworks. The site

BENEATH THE TARMAC, THE GRASS - November 2007
Animal, vegetable,mineral - printed in duotone lithography and consisting of 5 zigzags in a slipcase,
has been chosen for the Nottingham exhibiton, BENEATH THE TARMAC, THE GRASS. This is part of the
Tether Festival. Selected books are to be shelved in the Bromley House Library, an 18th Century Town
House in the centre of Nottingham. Each artist's book will be classified using this library's unique
classification system and integrated into Library.

BMPD Professional Development for Artists Event - 21 November 2007
As co-organiser I am helping to set up the next event of BMPD on 21 November in the Court Room,
Town Hall, Eastbourne , 6-9pm.
This will be an evening to support artists prepare for the first Eastbourne Festival in March 2008.
We have invited a panel of experienced artists to share information about how they have run
Open Houses and other artist-led events.
We will set up a website for BMPD events, information and news but in the meantime you can keep
up to date on the AN blog.

We invited a selected audience to an Open Day - Two Artists in Residence on an Allotment -
part of the Breaking Ground project. On a damp, grey day people viewed work in progress
and gave useful feedback. We all ate seed cake. |

Event in September 2006. To build on this Judith Alder and I are in the process of developing a

STONE
My film stone has been chosen as part of the Waiting Project - a partnership between
Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. The project seeks to place contemporary art in
unexpected places. This time artists' films are placed in the waiting areas of GP surgeries
across Cornwall.
Art has been shown to have a positive impact on health and well-being, whether through people
participating in arts activities or experiencing and responding to the art of others.
